Bad files cause delays, reprints, and blurry text. Use this study guide before you upload to 55printing.com – it covers the specs our prepress team checks on every order.

Resolution and color
- 300 dpi at final print size for photos and raster art.
- Work in CMYK for accurate ink on press; convert RGB exports before upload.
- Rich black for large areas: C40 M30 Y30 K100 – not 100% K alone.
- Export PDF/X-1a or high-quality PDF when possible.
Bleed, trim, and safe zone
Full-bleed products need artwork extending 0.125″ (1/8″) past each trim edge. Keep logos and phone numbers at least 0.125″ inside the trim line (safe zone). Business cards: 3.5″ × 2″ finished size → 3.75″ × 2.25″ document with bleed.
Fonts and links
- Embed or outline fonts in PDFs – missing fonts substitute unpredictably.
- Do not rely on MS Word or PowerPoint for full-bleed color jobs; export to PDF first.
- For editable templates, download our free layouts from the templates page.
Product-specific tips
| Product | Key spec |
|---|---|
| Business cards | 3.5×2″, 14pt stock common, 0.125″ bleed if background is full color |
| Flyers / postcards | Check exact flat size; EDDM has USPS size rules – use our EDDM product page defaults |
| Brochures | Allow creep on folded pieces; supply single PDF pages in reading order |
| Color copies | 100% scale, no “fit to page” – causes unwanted margins |
