Print PDF at actual size on Letter

Center every PDF page on an 8.5 × 11 inch sheet at its original physical size. The downloaded PDF never enlarges, shrinks or stretches the artwork.

Printing a PDF at actual size means one PDF point remains one printer point. This tool places each source page at 1:1 in the center of US Letter. A 7.25 × 9.25 inch page remains 7.25 × 9.25. If the source is larger than Letter, actual size cannot fit and the Letter edge can clip it.

Actual size compared with fit to page on US Letter
At 100%, the measured artwork stays fixed while the Letter carrier changes only the surrounding paper.
Small manual page centered on an 8.5 by 11 inch sheet
Centered white space is the correct result when a smaller source page must remain at true size.

Actual size is not the same as fit to page

“Fit” scales artwork until it fills the printable area. That can silently enlarge a small manual page or shrink a measured pattern. Actual size preserves the source dimensions and uses the Letter sheet only as a centered carrier.

White space is expected when the source page is smaller than Letter. It is evidence that the page stayed 1:1, not a defect to remove. Check the downloaded page dimensions and print with Actual size or 100%, not Fit.

How to print a PDF true to size

  1. Choose the source PDF. Use the exported file whose page size you intend to preserve.
  2. Create the Letter carrier. The browser centers each page at 1:1 and downloads one stacked PDF.
  3. Print at 100%. In the printer dialog choose Actual size or 100% and verify one measured feature with a ruler.

Actual-size PDF questions

What does actual size mean in a PDF?

Actual size means the PDF is printed with a scale factor of 100%. One inch defined in the PDF remains one physical inch before the printer’s own mechanical margins. This tool preserves that geometry by placing the source page on Letter without changing its width or height.

Why does my converted Letter PDF have white space?

The source page is smaller than 8.5 × 11 inches. The surrounding white paper is the unused part of the Letter carrier. Removing it by enlargement would stop the source from being actual size, so the tool intentionally keeps the centered space.

Will a page larger than Letter fit at actual size?

No. A page cannot remain at 1:1 and also fit inside a smaller sheet. The tool does not silently shrink oversized art. Use a larger paper size or choose a fit-to-page workflow only when changing the physical dimensions is acceptable.

Does this preserve vectors and searchable text?

The source page is embedded into a new Letter page rather than rendered as a screenshot. Vector art and text normally remain vector content. Always open the download and compare it with the source because encrypted or unusually complex PDFs may not process.

What printer option should I select?

Select Actual size, 100%, or the equivalent no-scaling option. Do not select Fit, Scale to printable area, or Shrink oversized pages when dimensions must stay exact. Measure a known ruler mark on the first printed sheet before running a full job.

Can I use this for a 7.25 × 9.25 manual?

Yes. A 7.25 × 9.25 page fits inside Letter and stays 7.25 × 9.25, centered horizontally and vertically. The remaining paper is expected. If the job is duplex, separately confirm the page sequence and flip edge before printing. Measure one printed sheet before you run the full quantity.

We center a smaller page on Letter before a copier is allowed to fit it

A church manual arrived at 7.25 by 9.25 inches. The office copier was set to Fit, so every page grew and the margins died. We run this bench first, center the page on US Letter at 100 percent, and measure one printed sheet before the box is filled. A postcard proof that is already smaller than Letter stays that size. The white paper around it is the carrier, not a mistake to scale away.

55printing uses this placement on manuals, booklets, and any PDF whose inch marks must survive the printer dialog. We keep teaching the difference between actual size and fit as those jobs come in. Daily. No ceiling.

Does 55printing use this actual-size tool on live manuals?

Yes. We center pages that must stay at their measured size, including 7.25 by 9.25 manuals, before a copier Fit setting can enlarge them. The public tool does not upload the file. We still measure one printed sheet, because a driver can ignore 100 percent if the operator picks Fit afterward.

Actual size still sits beside the other file benches

After the page is centered, a two-sided job still needs the duplex check, and a mixed stack may need the landscape fit. Those tools stay next to this one because we use them on the same orders.
