Combine landscape and portrait PDF pages

Keep landscape pages upright, turn only mismatched portrait pages 90 degrees left, and download one proportionally fitted landscape PDF.

A mixed-orientation PDF should not rotate every page the same way. This tool copies matching landscape pages as they are and turns only portrait pages 90 degrees left. Rotated pages are fitted proportionally to the landscape sheet, so circles stay circular, type stays readable and the output remains one ordered PDF.

Only the mismatched portrait page turns left; the matching landscape sheet does not move.
Ordered PDF stack with landscape and rotated portrait pages
One stacked output preserves pagination and gives the operator a consistent landscape sheet.

Page orientation and visible artwork are separate

A PDF page can be stored as a portrait MediaBox with a 90-degree rotation flag, or as a naturally wide page with no flag. The converter uses the effective visible orientation, then leaves matching landscape pages alone.

Portrait pages are turned left because that was the required reading direction for the press stack. They are contained proportionally, never stretched independently across width and height.

How to combine portrait and landscape pages

  1. Choose the mixed PDF. Keep all pages in their intended reading order.
  2. Normalize the sheet. Landscape pages are preserved and portrait pages are turned left to fit.
  3. Review every transition. Open the download and inspect pages before and after each orientation change.

Mixed-orientation PDF questions

How do I combine landscape and portrait pages in one PDF?

Keep the pages in one source PDF and run this converter. It uses the first effective landscape page as the target sheet, copies matching landscape pages, turns portrait pages 90 degrees left, and downloads one ordered file rather than separate page files.

Does the tool rotate every page?

No. Whole-file rotation is a different job handled by Rotate Files. This converter changes only pages whose effective orientation is portrait. A landscape page that is already readable stays in its original PDF page form. Open the download and check each page instead of assuming one turn was applied to the stack.

Why does the top of a portrait page face left?

The press stack specified a 90-degree left turn for portrait artwork on a landscape sheet. That direction keeps the intended pagination convention. If your operator requires the opposite reading direction, use the dedicated Rotate Files tool or ask for a human review.

Will the tool stretch my artwork?

No. A rotated page uses one proportional scale factor for both dimensions. It can leave a small paper band when aspect ratios differ, but circles remain circles and text is not widened to fill the sheet. That band is unused paper, not a command to scale the art again.

What happens to PDF rotation flags?

The tool evaluates effective orientation, including quarter-turn page rotation. Matching pages are copied. A mismatched portrait page is embedded visibly into the target sheet, so review the downloaded page rather than relying only on the source rotation number. A flag of 90 degrees is already part of how the page is read.

Is this suitable for duplex printing?

It creates one ordered page stack, but orientation correction does not select two-sided printing. Inspect the page count, choose the correct long-edge or short-edge flip, and run the duplex readiness tool before production. Turning a page left can change which edge should be the flip edge.

We turn only the portrait pages left when a landscape stack arrives sideways

A contractor sent a bid PDF with landscape covers and portrait scope pages. The portrait sheets were lying on their side in the proof. We keep the landscape pages and turn each portrait page 90 degrees left so the stack reads upright on one sheet size. We do not stretch the scope text to fill the paper. Circles stay circles.

55printing built this fit because mixed phone exports and scanner dumps hit the same copier. We keep teaching the left turn as new mixed files arrive. Daily. No ceiling.

Does 55printing turn mixed PDF pages with this tool?

Yes. We use it when a real file mixes landscape and portrait pages and the portrait pages must turn left onto the landscape sheet. We do not rotate the whole PDF. We open the download and check each page before it goes to a copier or a two-sided run.

A turned page still needs the duplex and actual-size benches

After the stack is upright, two-sided printing still needs the readiness check, and a page that must stay a measured size still needs actual size. Those tools sit on this same bench.
